We get this question from time to time and we thought this was a good time to do some fact-checking. If people are asking about tree roots and that means that there is some concern out there and we wanted to answer the question for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While trees do grow roots deep and wide<\/a> if conditions are favorable they cannot break through your foundation wall. Not directly at least. But it is important to note that tree roots can cause conditions that can harm your foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tree Root Conditions that cause foundation Issues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If a tree has roots that are close to your home it can cause shrinkage of the soil that supports your foundation. A tree has to have the moisture of course! The shrinkage will depend on the soil type around your home and the amount of moisture in the soil. You can help the situation by watering your tree. Don\u2019t overwater, however. If you overwater too close to your foundation it can put pressure on foundation walls which can lead to additional problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soil around your foundation supports it. If the soil around your foundation shrinks and pulls away from your foundation, there goes the support! Your foundation can shift and move when that soil support structure changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
